Massage for Apres Ski

Ski season is underway, and if you're just getting back from the slopes, odds are your body is feeling it!  This is the perfect time to consider a tune-up for your body to help restore balance to the muscles after a day of skiing, snowboarding, or any downhill sport.

As you start to play on the slopes, your muscles react to the new challenge, and this new workload can leave you sore. Sometimes you feel the burn as you cruise down a long trail while other times the soreness is not felt for up to three days after strenuous activity. Unlike competitive athletes, soreness can have a much greater impact on the adventures of recreational athletes. If you enjoy your sports while on vacation, during "ski week," or on random weekends, your muscles may be in different stages of conditioning throughout the winter.

A trained, certified sports massage therapist will understand your muscles' needs and apply techniques accordingly. If you just ripped down a half-pipe on your snowboard, and your quads and arms ache with "over-endorphinating", then your skilled sports massage therapist will use relaxing strokes and loosening stretches. They may use gentle pressure and a slower pace on any tender areas.

Massage therapists at The Sanctuary Spa are standing by to attend to your after-ski or snowboard needs. Let us know you just got back from the mountains and receive $10 off any massage service through February 28, 2010.

Staff Spotlight

Nancy Holland, Certified Massage Therapist, joined Bay Club Marin's Sanctuary Spa one year ago, coming from Santa Monica's well-regarded Shutters on the Beach Hotel. Nancy blends Eastern Thai massage techniques with Western Deep Tissue and Swedish to create an experience that is specific to her clients' needs. She understands that a variety of pressure points assist in freeing tension and achieving relaxation.

Nancy's signature treatment is a Hot Stone Massage. She has developed a style of application that is very specialized and will leave you in utter bliss. Expect to feel the sensation of perfect heat with firm pressure. Hot stones are used in place of her hands for only a portion of the massage, instantly providing release from the neck, spine, legs and feet.

Trained under the Institute of Health and Healing at California Pacific Medical Center in 2004, Nancy interned at the Pacific Heights hospital for one year, focusing on cancer patients. She is certified to work with cancer survivors and has specifically focused on massage for breast cancer survivors.

Nancy's extensive background and experience combined with her compassionate nature and desire to pamper all clients, supports her popularity at the Bay Club Marin.  She is available on Fridays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
